Cover Illustration for Fantasy Artist magazine, Issue No. 35, released in July 2012.

Fantasy Artist is the magazine formerly known as Digital Artist. You can check out more of their stuff at www.digitalartistdaily.com

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This particular illustration, aside from being the issue's cover, also appears as a tutorial within the pages of the magazine. Had fun working on this one. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just found out that Issue No. 36 is now available; one of the feature articles is an interview with yours truly, accompanied with some artworks (including some works that have never seen print). Check it out when you get the chance!

I want to know how you got the background to blur. That is a neat effect.

different layers per background element (skulls, ground, cliff, castle), increasing blur filter as each element moves farther away from the focus (in this case, the character). you can even apply it on flattened images; you just have to separate the elements of your image into separate layers and paint a bit extra on the overlaps underneath the layers before you blur them. :)
